Rooney sack, Leeds heartache, Burnley champions among Championship opening weekend kneejerk reactions

0

As is typically the case, the Championship opening weekend delivered pure chaos with goals, shock results and statement victories aplenty. The events of matchday one were enough to make me uncomfortable about my bold pre-season predictions for the 2024/25 season. But instead of backtracking a la Martin Zubimendi…

WHACK-Job Billy Baldwin Threatens RFK Jr. Over Possible Trump Endorsement and WOW, Was THAT Ever Dumb

0

Rumor has it Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will be officially dropping out of the race and endorsing Trump … maybe even as soon as today. This would be a huge bump for the Trump campaign and the reason we know this is mainly from people on the Left reacting very poorly to this possibility.

Seriously. If they are threatening RFK Jr. and his FAMILY over it, they must be worried.

Or they’re just a complete lunatic like Billy Baldwin:

Hey Bobby… heard you’re about to pull the plug on your campaign.
Choose wisely my friend.

Curious… have you heard from Robin, Emily or Kiki lately? pic.twitter.com/SwaNlFQepw

— Billy Baldwin (@BillyBaldwin) August 21, 2024

Wasn’t he the nice one? Wait, that’s Stephen.

Billy is a jerk.

Clearly.

Is this a threat? The Baldwin family is completely psychotic. pic.twitter.com/dJBxZW0Ahp

— Ian Miles Cheong (@stillgray) August 22, 2024

Yeah, that’s a threat.

Are you threatening RFK? What the hell is wrong with you?

— Coco 🇺🇸 (@CoClarified) August 22, 2024

How long ya’ got?

Big tough guy, ain’t ya. 🙄Dude, threatening someone on X is a no-no.

— SeldenGADawgs (@SeldenGADawgs) August 22, 2024

Hey, Billy… has anybody, yourself included, heard anything of the remnants of your acting career lately?

— Cleavage Crumbs (@CleavageCrumbs) August 22, 2024

Sounds like a threat coming from a Baldwin tbh

— Dave Delivers (@jeffersonianguy) August 22, 2024

Because that’s EXACTLY what it is.

Nigeria police working to secure release of 20 kidnapped medical students

0

Nigerian Medical Association says students from universities of Jos and Maiduguri were taken while travelling in Benue State.

Nigerian police and security agencies are working to secure the release of 20 medical students who were kidnapped in the eastern part of the country, officials say.

The medical students were on their way to an annual convention when they were abducted in Benue State on Thursday evening, police and university sources said on Saturday.

The Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students said in a statement that the students were travelling to the convention in the city of Enugu when they were taken.

Fortune Olaye, the secretary-general of the Nigerian Medical Students’ Association, said 20 medical students from two universities, as well as one doctor travelling with them, had been kidnapped.

It added that there had been a ransom demand in return for their release.

In a Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) letter to the inspector general of police, posted on the social media platform X, NMA secretary-general Benjamin Egbo said 12 of the abducted students were from the University of Jos and eight were from the University of Maiduguri.

One of the students managed to share their location, indicating that they were in the Oglewu Ehaje area in Benue State, the letter said.

“The Nigerian Medical Association is deeply concerned for the safety and well-being of these future medical professionals,” it added, saying that swift and decisive action to secure their return was “crucial”.

We will not rest until our dear students have been rescued, alive.@Fmohnigeria @NigEducation @PoliceNG @OfficialDSSNG @NGRPresident

— Nigerian Medical Association (@nationalnma) August 17, 2024

The kidnapping was also confirmed by Catherine Anene, public relations officer for police in Benue State.

Hyacinth Alia, governor of Benue State, said in a statement that he had “directed security agencies in the state to intensify efforts and ensure the safe release” of the students.

The national police said in a statement that it had ordered the deployment of “advanced helicopters and drones, as well as the use of specialized tactical vehicles to facilitate the search and secure the safe return of the victims”.

The kidnapped students were reportedly travelling from the northern part of the country in a convoy of two buses when the incident occurred, Nigeria’s This Day newspaper reported.

The students were abducted on the road near the town of Otukpo, less than 150km (93 miles) from Enugu, which often witnesses attacks and kidnappings.

Cases of kidnapping have increased significantly in Nigeria due to a severe economic crisis which is pushing more people towards crime. However, official figures are unreliable as many cases are not reported.

In 2022, a law was passed banning payments to kidnappers – but many families say they feel they have no choice but to cough up the ransoms demanded.

Nigerian consultancy firm SBM Intelligence said it had recorded 4,777 cases between May 2023, when Bola Tinubu assumed charge as president, and January 2024.

Donald Trump and Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp Make Amends Following DNC

0

Former President Donald Trump and Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp have appeared to put their differences aside and recover from their recent spat, with both Republicans voicing support for each other following the Democratic National Convention (DNC).

“We need to send Donald Trump back to the White House,” Kemp told Fox News’s Sean Hannity on Thursday evening:

Trump gave Kemp a shout-out in return in a Truth Social post:

Thank you to #BrianKempGA for all of your help and support in Georgia, where a win is so important to the success of our Party and, most importantly, our Country.

I look forward to working with you, your team, and all of my friends in Georgia to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

The governor’s endorsement came as a surprise to some viewers as Trump called him “disloyal” and “very bad for the Republican Party” at an early August campaign rally:

Trump is literally up there claiming Brian Kemp is trying to stop Republicans from winning Georgia. Quite an interesting strategy to tell your voters in a swing state their own party is rigging elections against them. pic.twitter.com/0iNPhfOrn7

— Richard Hanania (@RichardHanania) August 3, 2024

“Little Brian, little Brian Kemp. Bad guy,” Trump said, according to the New York Post

In a call-in to Fox News after Kemp’s appearance on Hannity, Trump again praised the governor’s words.

“I just saw Brian … was interviewed by Sean Hannity, and he was very nice, and he said he wants Trump to win, and he’s going to work with me 100% and I think we’re going to have a very good relationship with Brian Kemp,” he said, according to the Associated Press.

Trump calls Harris ‘a Marxist’ at private campaign appearance on Arizona border

Aug. 22 (UPI) — Police in Cochise County, Arizona, have arrested a man for a social media post in which he threatened to ‘kill’ a political candidate during GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump‘s campaign stop near the U.S.-Mexico line Thursday, officials announced.

Police apprehended Ronald Lee Syvrud, 66, of Benson, Ariz., about 2.5 hours north of the Mexican border, without incident Thursday, they said.

While they did not name the candidate Syvrud threatened, it was largely thought to be Trump since he was campaigning near the border. Police said Syvrud was wanted for “suspicious activity,

“Syvrud is being sought as an investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release on Facebook.

“The U.S. Secret Service investigates all threats against our protectees. As this is an ongoing investigation, we cannot comment further at this time,” a Secret Service spokesperson said, according to ABC News.

Trump appeared near Arizona’s border with Mexico on Thursday, describing rival Vice President Kamala Harris as a Marxist because of how the White House is dealing with illegal migration.

The event at the Montezuma Pass in Cochise County was billed as “Make America Safe Again.”

“We have a Marxist that is running,” Trump said about Harris’ candidacy. “This country is not ready for a Marxist.”

His hour-long appearance, which wasn’t open to the public, included media, border officials, Conchise County Sheriff Mark Dannells and those whose family members were attacked or murdered by undocumented immigrants.

Trump spoke at an unfinished portion of the border wall.

“It could have been put up in a matter of weeks,” Trump said, describing the barrier as the “Rolls-Royce” of walls.

Instead, he pointed to pieces piled nearby that haven’t been erected.

Trump said that, when he was president, “When you came here illegally you were caught and deported.”

Now he says the situation is different with President Joe Biden and Harris, whom he has falsely labeled as the “border czar.”

“Kamala is always going to have open borders,” Trump said. “She will allow more than 100 million illegal aliens into our country.”

He also said: “When we win in November we will end the Kamala Harris border nightmare once and for all. We will get it back very strong.”

Trump, pointing toward Mexico, said, “There are a lot of rough people on the other side.”

At the event, Trump appeared with people who were allegedly victims of crimes by undocumented immigrants.

That included the family of Rachel Morin, who was raped and murdered in 2023 in Maryland. An immigrant from El Salvador was arrested and charged in the case.

Security was tight for Trump’s trip from Sierra Vista Municipal Airport to the border.

Secret Service agents, Cochise County sheriff officers and other law enforcement officers were stationed along a dirt road leading to the border.

Also on Thursday, authorities in Cochise County continue to seek an Arizona man accused of making threats against Trump, a spokesperson told CNN.

Syvrud threatened to kill Trump in multiple social media posts over the past couple weeks, according to public information officer Carol Capas. She declined to name which platform the threats were made on.

On Friday, Trump will campaign in Glendale, Ariz., at the same venue where Kamala Harris drew a crowd of 15,000 people earlier this month. Trump appeared in Pennsylvania on Monday, Michigan on Tuesday and North Carolina on Wednesday. Trump also will visit Nevada on Friday. They are all considered battleground states.

His running mate, JD Vance, who also spoke at the border recently, will appear with Trump on Friday.

Vance criticized Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, during a campaign event Thursday in Valdosta, Ga.

He noted Walz’s speech Wednesday did not begin until 11:22 p.m. EDT Wednesday, and criticized Harris’ record on several issues.

“I appreciate the Democrats not being able to keep anything on time, because I think by the time that he spoke, everybody in the state of Georgia was already in bed,” Vance said at the campaign event. “If you weren’t asleep at the beginning of the speech, you were sure as hell asleep by the end of the speech.”

Vance said Walz didn’t describe Harris’ accomplishments on cost-of-living issues or making the United States more “peaceful and secure.

“She couldn’t say that, because Kamala Harris has caused the very policies that have made Americans’ lives worse over the last few years,” Vance told reporters.

“Her argument, and the argument of her surrogates, is, ‘We’re going to do things better when I get power.’ She’s had power for three and a half years, and she’s made everything worse.”

Vance said he spoke “very briefly” with Brian Kemp and the Georgia governor is “100 percent” behind the Trump-Vance ticket.

“I read the headlines. Brian Kemp and Donald Trump have had some disagreements. I 100 percent guarantee you that Brian Kemp is behind this ticket. He wants us to win, because he believes the policies of Kamala Harris are disastrous for this country,” Vance said.

Kemp had denied Trump’s request to not certify the state’s election in Georgia in which Biden won by 11,779 votes.
