2022 Genesis Scottish Open odds, field: Surprising PGA picks, predictions from model that’s nailed 8 majors

The lead-up to the Open Championship features a few tournaments for players to compete in as they prepare for the final major of the year. The 2022 Genesis Scottish Open appears to be the most competitive of them, and it has a compelling list of favorites to match. All three previous major winners will tee it up on Thursday at The Renaissance Club, as Justin Thomas (12-1), Scottie Scheffler (12-1), and Matt Fitzpatrick (18-1) are near the top of the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open odds at Caesars Sportsbook.

While the trio will be difficult to topple, Jon Rahm is the overall favorite at the event, at 11-1. Rahm’s only PGA Tour win this season came outside of the United States at the Mexico Open, and he’ll be looking for another in the United Kingdom this weekend. Before making any 2022 Genesis Scottish Open picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up over $10,600 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model included J.T. Poston in its best bets to win the 2022 John Deere Classic. That bet hit at +5500, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned almost $1,100. At the 2022 Masters, McClure’s model was all over Scottie Scheffler’s first career major championship victory heading into the weekend.

In addition, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright at the 2021 Open Championship, even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. The model was also all over Jon Rahm’s (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 U.S. Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner.

This same model has also nailed a whopping eight majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the Scottish Open 2022 field is locked, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2022 Genesis Scottish Open predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open: Scheffler, the No. 1 ranked player in the world and one of the top favorites, stumbles and barely cracks the top five. Scheffler has been the hottest player on tour this season, securing four victories and three runner-up finishes. He’s recorded a total of nine top-10 finishes this season, which includes a T-2 finish at the U.S. Open in June.

However, Scheffler has failed to crack the top-10 in five of his last seven starts on the PGA Tour.  In addition, Scheffler currently ranks 121st in driving accuracy percentage (59.35%), 135th in one-putt percentage (38.48%) and 96th in total putting (211.8), which could cause major trouble this week. He’s not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in the Genesis Scottish Open 2022 field.

Another surprise: Jordan Spieth, a 30-1 long shot, makes a strong run at the title. Spieth is coming off of a missed cut in the Travelers Championship to close out June, but has been competitive in his other six tournaments since The Masters, which began with a win at the RBC Heritage.

When Spieth has been at his best this season, it has been when he’s been able to make the most of his approach play. In the three tournaments that he has either won or finished second, he averaged 1.86 strokes gained on such shots. Spieth sits just outside the top 10 golfers in going-for-the-green conversions as well, at 70.56 percent, but with the final major right around the corner, he’ll be looking to lean on that element of his game this weekend.

How to make 2022 Scottish Open picks

The model is also targeting three other golfers with odds of 25-1 or longer who will make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these long shots could hit it big. You can only see the model’s 2022 Scottish Open picks here.
